SUET FOR WILD BIRDSSuet is a high energy formulation of animal fat and other tasty ingredients to attract beautiful insect eating birds. Providing suet in your backyard provides a quick source of heat and energy for wild birds. It traditionally has been used in the Winter months as a substitute for the insects that birds usually feed upon but are not plentiful in cold weather. However, suet should be presented in your backyard year round. Suet provides an excellent source of energy for spring time birds. Nesting birds can use suet in the Spring and Summer months as they busy themselves with mating, making a nest, then feeding hungry youngsters. Migrating birds can use the extra energy in the Fall. Some of these birds won't visit your seed feeders,so this is a great way to attract more types of birds to your backyard!
Presenting suet to your backyard birds is as easy as putting one of our suet cakes in a mesh bag or smearing it into the bark of a tree or log. Of course we offer specially designed suet feeders which are attractive and easy to fill. These feeders usually provide a wire cage to hold the suet cake. Since most of the birds that are attracted to suet, usually cling to the bark of trees in search of insects, suspend your suet feeder in a tree close to the trunk, approximately 5 to 6 feet from the ground.
The birds that visit your suet feeder will also reward you in the spring and summer months by eating the insects in your garden!
An Important Tip for Your Suet Feeder!
Be sure to place your suet feeder in shade, near the trunk of a tree. The shade will protect your suet cake from the sun, and insect eating birds can usually be found pecking on tree trunks in search of food.
