As your plants grow up the arbor or trellis, you will need to prune and train them. The best material to tie your plants with is twine.

Another beautiful way to plant on a garden arbor is to plant a broad leaf vine like ivy and a summer flowering plant like clematis. Location of your garden arbor or trellis is also important. Make sure you place your arbor were it won't shade out other plants, and away from any prevailing winds where it might blow over.
